About Us

Save The Waves develops innovative coastal protection strategies for coastal communities around the world, enabling them to preserve their coastal resources and in turn strengthen their communities. Utilizing a partner-centric approach, STW collaborates with local communities to engage and evaluate the value of local coastal zones, and provides a framework for implementing sustainable coastal protection strategies and tactics. STW’s vision is to transform the way communities world wide view and value their coastal areas and empower them to protect their own coastal resources. STW programs include:

•World Surfing Reserves:  An innovative global coastal conservation initiative that utilizes heritage and community-building to drive conservation, and develops the tools, facilitation, and support for protecting iconic surfing areas.
•Surfonomics:  A program that leverages resource-based economics to determine the value of coastal surfing resources to better inform and educate policy makers.
•Endangered Waves: Documents and responds to acute threats to special surfing areas around the world to help protect the coastline and educate the public about their value.
